Play Therapy Courses Offered
  (Course Descriptions)

INTRODUCTION TO PLAY THERAPY
The purpose of this dynamic training is that of thoroughly familiarizing participants with the theory and practice of conducting play therapy with children. Of primary importance will be the application of theoretical information to actual clinical practice through discussion and experiential activities.

Though intended to be a brief course for those wishing to begin the practice of play therapy, this training is certain to provide the more experienced practitioner with appealing and practical information which can be applied when approaching children in a variety of therapeutic situations.

ADVANCED PLAY THERAPY
Intended for those who have had at least a one or two day training in the theory and practice of basic non-directive play therapy, this training will focus on a variety of advanced play therapy techniques and strategies. Included among these will be group play therapy, goal-directed techniques, family approaches using play, and assessment of progress in play therapy. Attendees will be given opportunities throughout the day to "play" and participate in related activities.

PLAY THERAPY REFRESHER
One day training designed not only to serve as a review of play therapy foundations, but also to present participants with more advanced skills for the actual practice of play therapy. Being "in the moment" and "present-focused", getting into the "child's world" in the playroom, understanding play therapy themes and child assessment in play therapy will be included in this day of playful activity and lively discussion.

ATTACHMENT APPLICATIONS IN PLAY AND FAMILY THERAPY
Intended for participants who have a good understanding of play therapy, this training will be instructional as well as experiential. Attendees will increase their awareness of attachment foundations, attachment assessment, treatment planning and therapeutic “playful” interventions through selected activities. Designed to be an educational and “fun-filled” training, participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to play.

ETHICAL AND LEGAL DILEMMAS IN CHILD AND PLAY THERAPY
The application of professional ethics and legal guidelines to the practice of child and play therapy will be explored. A major focus of this timely training will be that of the clinician’s practice of “safeguarding” against malpractice actions. Attendees will be challenged to “re-think” and to adopt a decidedly more “proactive” stance regarding selected aspects of their professional practices.
(NOTE: This training meets NM Counseling And Therapy Practice Board ethics requirement of 6hrs. ethical and legal training requirement for licensure renewal.)
